In 1985, she was on the cover of National Geographic.
Sharbat Gula, a young Afghan girl, is famous in the world for her incredible green eyes, and for this picture that made the reputation of her photographer Steve McCurry.
For 17 years, Steve McCurry has been looking for her everywhere. Hearing that the refugee camp where he had first met her was about to be destroyed, he decided to take one last chance to find her, by showing her picture to the oldest inhabitants of the place. Several false leads and disenchantments later, someone finally introduced him to a man pretending to be the girl's brother; the color of his eyes was confirming it.
That's how he finally found her, in 2002. Steve McCurry was sure it was her, and her identity was then confirmed by a series of tests.
Sharbat Gula is now in her thirties, she's married, has three daughters, and lives in a small region of Afghanistan.
She has changed a lot physically, but still possesses these amazing green eyes that had made her one of the most beautiful persons ever photographed.
